So, I apologize in advance if there's a thread like this but I don't think there's one. The idea is that people interested in polishing show their work here and also share techniques and tips. This is mostly a matter of aesthetics and has limited (not necessarily zero) impact in performance but it's a hobby of mine and surely there's others around that do the same. I hope this thread is interesting to some of you folks! I will start with my latest Polishing job, Halcyon forge wrought iron san mai on a hard Oohira ao renge suita. This is not a perfect job, there's still a couple shallow low spots left as I polished this knife out of the box without any coarse stone grinding but since Joe of Halcyonforge did stone polishing on it beforehand the knife is nearly perfect for bench stones polishing. Again, not a ferfect job but I love the amount of detail and 3D character the hard suita brings out of the wrought iron.

thanks! I know, some chef friends have no time for polishing either. For me it''s my time to relax and use my hands, kind of my time to meditate. I'm sure some guys around do polish their knives.
Looking forward to the yanagi xD

Damn! yeah, I would definitely love to play with that but yeah, I'm a tad too far away. I think I have seen pictures of the full sword before and it's impressive! While testing how different stones react with the wrought iron cladding got me a nice surprise with a hard Shinden Suita. It brings out so much detail. I suspect it's some sort of oxidation process but it sure looks cool to me.

Crazy what that shinden did! theres much more Stuff coming out then with the Aizu! I should get 2 new Suitas in the next days and should do some testing.. Lots of stress until wednesday and then time to relax again and trying some stones
