Thank you very much guys zetieum BastlWastl. I'm glad and humbled you like it, I really enjoy working on the stones and lately have been enjoying making short videos too to share the stones a bit xD. This stone leaves possibly my favourite finish on this wrought Iron clad knife so far, I have a big vintage Ozuku Iromono that comes close but not quite as easy to get a fully scratchless finish.

Ha!! i got a very similar narutaki that i would also rate "insane" for polishing. Narutakis are also some of my favorite ones. very underrated or better not so flashy, but it was the neighbour mine of the nakayamas until those fuckers build a highway over it. i also read it was the oldest mine in kyoto. those stamped selected ones are pretty crazy good. i also got a full red narutaki that is a mudcanon. nice videos and arghh gotta ship me 3 new ones ("just" suitas) Hmm i should also try my stuff soon.. most stuff was only tested a couple of times and i sit on insane stones. seeya Daniel and crazy mirror polishing!! this is really whacky to get it like this.. gotta make a super hardcore progression with stones the remove the stuff done by the stone before.

Got me three monster insane stones today too! It has been a while but got three beasts. Will be posting them later on the new stones thread. One is an absurd Narutaki Shiro suita.

Testing a new Wakasa suita, sold as sunashi but I disagree. It doesn't matter, super fine suita and super smooth for the hardness.

Hey Guys, i am new to the Forum. I have no Natural Stones in my collection but i am trying to do nice looking finishes on my knives and come as close to a "kasumi finish" i can get. This knive i polished only on a King KDS 1000 and the help of a wine cork. The contrast is not very strong between the layers, but looks ok for a synthetic stone? Next i will try a finish on my Kanehiro Santoku Aogami Super / Stainless Cladding - maybe here is a better contrast possible.

Nice work. I would be curious to know, how to get a stronger contrast ...

Ah, sorry for the confusing choice of words, I meant that I will finish and post a couple knives soon. A kato damascus that I'm just experimenting with the final details of the finish and a Shig kasumi.

In terms of contrast, except some rare exceptions a muddy soft midgrit synthetic (i.e. King 800 or King Hyper 1K) will give more contrast than most naturals, it's just that the finish is not as attractive and has less "character" and shine. Using mud on a soft backing isn't the best for contrast in my experience.

Nice work. I would be curious to know, how to get a stronger contrast ... If you only want contrast get a King 800 or King Hyper 1000, muddy midgrit synthetics give the strongest contrast. But if you also want that misty look, or to see details in the cladding, or the difference in reflectivity with the angle, and other subtleties you have to go with naturals. However, more often than not naturals have less contrast than those midgrit synthetics, maybe I will make a couple comparison pictures or a video at some point.
